Multi-Service Forum announces global sites for interoperability test
The MultiService Forum, a 20-year-old coalition seeking to harmonize standards from groups such as ITU, ETSI and IETF, announced the location of global testbeds for its 2008 Global MSF Interoperability program in October. The tests include China Mobile as a test lab for the first time, as well as the Department of Homeland Security's National Communication System.
MSF President Roger Ward said that BT and Vodafone will collaborate at a UK-based test facility. China Mobile will direct the GMI2008 Asia site, and U.S. sites will include Verizon Communications and the University of New Hampshire's Interoperability Lab, as well as NCS. The NCS provides emergency communications after natural disasters, combining wireless and wireline services for first-responders and the public at large. NCS contractor Richard Kaczmarek said that the NCS is interested in testing end-to-end Quality of Service and prioritization, to make sure call priority can include low-latency services such as video.
Ward said that 2008 goals will include the testing of end-to-end IP Multimedia Subsystem functionality, including hybrid systems combining IMS and Web services. IPTV and location-based services also will be tested. The MSF works with standards bodies by creating Implementation Agreements for using standards. MSF has specified 28 IAs to date.
